Kyoto Fine Arts Brass

Kyoto Fine Arts Brass(KFAB) was established in February, 1994. The members who live in Kink and Tokai area love brass ensemble. Currently, KFAB consists of twenty four members. We perform an ensemble with brass instruments, mainly in Kyoto. We have adopted Philip Jones Brass Ensemble style which has 4 trumpets, 1 horn, 4 trombones and 1 tuba. We liberally arrange the style from a trio to a large ensemble flexibly, and have a lot of repertories from the Renaissance to the Modern music.

As shown in the name of "Fine Arts", we aim at a high performance of completeness musically, and we also aim to introduce the wonderful brass ensemble to more people. Moreover, whenever we meet, we have a discussion about "what is ensemble?". Occasionally we sit up all night contemplating this important question. When we are performing on stage, we share with the audience a strong feeling of unity expressed through the music. We feel strongly that we want to express various thoughts with sound beyond language.

Since we held our first concert in Kyoto in July 1994, we have performed in Nagoya, Tsu, Toyama, Nara, Otsu, etc. But we generally play in Kyoto. We have performed the following music:G.LANGFORD/London Miniatures, L.BERNSTEIN/Highlights from West Side Story, Jan Koetsier : Brass Symphony, Jim Parker : A Londoner in New York, Maurice Ravel : "Bolero", Sir William Walton : "Spitfire" Prelude and Fugue, V.Edward : four Brass Quintet music, etc.

Chamber music is studied under Mr. K. Grote (the Berlin philharmonic orchestra) and Mr. Yoshinori Nonoguchi.
